Our range of consumer units (also known as fuse boxes) is fully compliant with current UK regulations. We supply small 2-way consumer units up to units with dozens of ways for large properties with heavy energy demands.
What are consumer units?
Consumer units control the supply of electricity to a property. Electricity first enters at a consumer unit and is then distributed to each room. Outside of industry circles, you might hear a consumer unit more commonly called a fuse box.
How many ways does a consumer unit need?
The number of “ways” a consumer unit has refers to how many separate destinations it can supply with electricity. The number of ways you need depends on the size and energy requirements of your building:
At what height should a fuse box consumer unit be fitted?
The switches of a consumer unit must be between 1,350-1,450mm above floor level.
Can I replace my own consumer unit?
In most cases, no. Your consumer unit must be replaced by a qualified technician to ensure it complies with UK regulations. It also requires an official Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). Failure to meet these standards can result in fines and even imprisonment.
Can I change a consumer unit without rewiring the property?
Yes, you can. But you must test all of the circuits to ensure they’re safe and fix faults or defects.
Where can I find product specifications?
Each of our consumer unit product pages has a Specifications section. This is where you’ll find information such as standards, voltage range, rated current, frequency and dimensions.
How quickly does Electrical Supermarket deliver consumer units?
We aim to get your order to you within 24-48 hours. If it looks like it’ll take longer, we’ll contact you when we process it. Please see our delivery and returns policy for more details.
